Judicious use of photography left no doubt about repeated restoration of the ice dam on the Clark Fork River. Another (to me) amazing discovery about the cause of ice cam failure--at a critical depth of water, heavier per unit than ice, floated the dam. I always assumed it melted as temperatures rose.
